K'taka min, MLAs head to Capital amid buzz over leadership change
Bengaluru, Nov. 21 -- A Karnataka minister N Chaluvarayaswamy, along with MLAs Iqbal Hussain, H C Balakrishna, and S R Srinivas, who are considered close deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar, left for New Delhi on Thursday to meet the Congress's top brass, people familiar with the matter said amid buzz over a power tussle in the Siddaramaiah-led government.
According to the people, around a dozen more MLAs may join them in the Capital on Friday. Earlier, several Congress MLCs had held discussions with party general secretaries in the Capital.
The development, which came a day after chief minister Siddaramaiah completed two-and-half-year term in office, has reignited the speculation that the Congress government in Karnataka was formed after reaching a compromise on a "rotational chief minister formula", under which Shivakumar was promised the top post after two-and-a-half years.
However, Siddaramaiah rejected these reports and asserted that he will be the chief minister for five years.
Addressing a gathering in Chamarajanagar on Thursday, Siddaramaiah hinted that he would continue in the CM post. He emphasised that his position has been strong from the beginning and will remain so.
Meanwhile, Shivakumar's brother D K Suresh, a former MP, said Siddaramaiah never backtracks from his promises.
Asked whether he (CM) would keep up his promise made to Shivakumar, Suresh said he has no clue about it. "You should ask about big things to big people only. How can I answer such questions," he told reporters....
