LUCKNOW, Jan. 1 -- Opener Aryan Juyal on Wednesday smacked his second century of the season to help former champions Uttar Pradesh continue their winning streak in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with yet another win as they defeated Assam by 58 runs through VJD method at Rajkot. Juyal, who scored 80 against Hyderabad, 134 against Chandigarh and 26 against Baroda in the first three matches of the season, on Wednesday struck an unbeaten 150 as Uttar Pradesh scored 291/2 in 42 overs when bad light stopped play in reply to Assam's total of 308. It was also his fifth century in 42 List A matches. Juyal, who stitched together 128 runs for the second wicket with Priyam Garg, struck 15 boundaries and three sixes in his 140-ball unbeaten knock. The chase never looked difficult for Rinku Singh and Co as Abhishek Goswami (24, 29b, 3x4) and Juyal added unbeaten 54 runs for the opening wicket before Goswami was retired hurt, at the Niranjan Shah Stadium. Last match centurion Dhruv Jurel then scored 16-ball 17 with the help of two boundaries, but former captain Priyam Garg came up with his maiden half-century of the season, scoring 53-ball 52 with the help of five boundaries. Skipper Rinku Singh (37, 15b, 4x4, 2x6) was giving company to Juyal when the bad light stopped play. Earlier, Assam batters found two UP spinners Vipraj Nigam and Zeeshan Ansari tough to handle as the two shared seven wickets between them to keep Assam batters in check. Barring skipper Sumit Ghadignaokar and Sibsankar Roy, no other batters could stay long in the middle. Pacers Kunal Tyagi and Karan Chaudhary dislodged openers Pradyum Saikia (13) and Saurav Digingia (15) and left rivals struggling at 39/2 within the power play. Skipper Ghadignaokar and Roy then added 171 runs for the third wicket, but once the two departed in quick succession, Assam started losing wickets on regular intervals before being bowled out in 48.4 overs while batting first after winning the toss. Ghadignaokar struck 101 in 86 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and three sixes, whereas Roy made 82 in 83 balls with the help of 11 fours. With 3/60 at 6.00 on Monday, Ansari took his wickets tally to 14, whereas Nigam bagged 4/66. Uttar Pradesh, who now tops the Elite Group B table with 16 points with four wins in as many matches, will now be playing against Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday....
