Judo coach gets lifer for raping 10-year-old
Meerut, June 22 -- A special court in Meerut district sentenced a judo coach, Manish alias Max, to life imprisonment until his last breath for the brutal rape of a 10-year-old judo player at a school in the Kankarkheda area. The additional district and sessions judge (POCSO Act-2), Sangeeta, also imposed a fine of 50,000 rupees on the convict.
According to the case details, the convict, a resident of Anoopnagar Fazalpur under the Kankarkheda police station jurisdiction, committed the crime on June 2, 2023, within the school premises where the victim attended judo coaching.
According to the prosecution, the victim's father lodged a complaint on June 10, 2023, accusing Manish of rape, violations under the POCSO Act, and issuing death threats. The 10-year-old girl, a junior-level judo player, had been training under Manish for four years at the school, which offered judo-karate coaching.
On the day of the incident, the victim had gone to the coaching session with her 11-year-old brother. Manish sent the brother and other children outside, luring the girl to a guardroom where he committed the crime. He threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident. The trauma left the girl unconscious, and the coach took her to her home, misleading her family by claiming she had sustained a serious injury during practice.
Prosecutor Sandeep Singh stated that the victim's family, unaware of the assault, sought medical help at three hospitals, but she remained unconscious. After being admitted to a fourth hospital, she regained consciousness eight days later and narrated the horrific ordeal to her family. Enraged, her family and local villagers carried her to the Kankarkheda police station to file a complaint.
The police arrested Manish five days later and filed a chargesheet within two months. The court delivered its verdict on Friday, June 20, 2025, after a thorough trial.
Investigations revealed Manish's criminal history, including a prior conviction for cannabis trafficking in Chhattisgarh, where he served one and a half years in prison. After his release, he established a judo-karate coaching center at the Fazalpur school, exploiting his position to target the victim. The court also examined allegations against three other individuals accused of issuing threats, but they were acquitted due to insufficient evidence, ADGC said. htc...
