Journalist killed, one injured after truck hits bike in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 26 -- A speeding tipper truck rammed into a motorcycle late Monday night at Budhiya Ka Inara market, located on the Prayagraj-Gorakhpur National Highway under the Phulpur police station area. The accident resulted in the death of a journalist and left another person seriously injured.
According to police, the truck hit the bike from behind, killing pillion rider Naresh Dwivedi, 45, on the spot. Dwivedi, a resident of Pakri Sewar village and a journalist for a Hindi daily newspaper, lived with his family in Naini. His companion, Baijnath Prasad Kanojia, who was driving the motorcycle, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Phulpur Community Health Centre. He was later referred to Prayagraj for further treatment, police added.
Dwivedi and Kanojia were returning from a wedding function in Machhlishahr, Jaunpur district, late Monday night when the accident occurred.
Local villagers reported that Baijnath was trapped under the truck, which dragged him for nearly 50 metres before stopping.
A police team reached the scene shortly after receiving information, took the body into custody, and sent it for a postmortem examination. The truck driver fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle a short distance away.
"A case has been registered and a hunt for the errant driver is underway," said Praveen Kumar Gautam, SHO.
The deceased journalist is survived by his wife Sadhana, a son, and a daughter....
