LUCKNOW, Nov. 26 -- Top-seeded Indian pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand on Tuesday kicked-off their campaign with a thrilling win in the Syed Modi India International World Tour Super 300 Badminton Championship 2025, securing a place in the pre-quarterfinals, at the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Academy here. In their first round encounter in the women's doubles, defending champions Jolly and Gopichand defeated the Malaysian duo of Chen Su Hui and Tan Zhing Yi 19-21, 22-20, 21-9 in a thrilling encounter, which lasted for one hour and 14 minutes. Obviously, all eyes turned on Court No 3 when the Indian pair lost the first game after trailing by six points in the beginning. They tried their best to catch up the rivals and even levelled the score at 16 and the 19, but an unforced error by Jolly at this juncture allowed the rivals to take the score to 20-19 before wrapping the game at 21-19. The ding-dong battle continued even in the second game as the scores were locked at 15, 17 and 19 before the Indian pair clinched the game at 22-20. Much was expected in the decider then, but making full use of the home conditions, the Commonwealth Games bronze medalist India pair walked away with the match at ease.
