Gorakhpur, Sept. 16 -- Six children drowned while taking part in the Jivitputrika Vrat, a ritual where mothers fast and pray for the long life of their children. In Kushinagar, three separate drowning incidents were reported. In Hata town, 14-year-old Hans drowned in a pond while bathing. In Sonbarsa village, Ankit Prajapati,17, drowned in another pond; his body was found on Monday morning. In Paikauli village, Chandan,16, drowned in a waterbody while bathing. He was there with his mother and other villagers to perform the ritual. Similar accidents took place in Deoria district on Saturday evening. Five children drowned at different places while bathing in ponds during the ritual. In Devgaon village, four children were pulled from the water and taken to the Community Health Centre. Two were declared dead. In Guleria village, another child drowned. In Rudrapur town, 11-year-old twin brothers Kunal and Aryan went into deep water while bathing. Locals rescued the brothers, but Kunal later died later in the hospital....
