JHANSI, Aug. 23 -- A police constable saved a 32-year-old woman who attempted to die by suicide by jumping into the Sukhnai river in Jhansi district on Thursday night, officials said. According to police, the woman, a widow, had been living in a rented accommodation in Mauranipur along with a 17-year-old girl. The two, said to be close friends, had recently returned from Gurugram where the woman was working. On Thursday evening, the girl's parents arrived and tried to take her back home against her wishes. Upset over the incident, the woman went to the nearby river and jumped in, officials said.Passersby raised an alarm and informed the local police outpost.Dhirendra Singh, a constable posted there, rushed to the spot. He jumped into the river and managed to pull the woman out safely. She was later taken to the community health centre. Mauranipur circle officer Manoj Kumar Singh said Dhirendra Singh's swift action saved the woman's life....
