LUCKNOW, July 28 -- Jhansi's Kapil Salonia on Sunday hogged the limelight at the UP State Junior Major Badminton Tournament, winning a golden treble, at the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Academy here. The event is meant for the selection of the UP team for the forthcoming East Zone Championship. An inmate of the Guru Govind Singh Sports College here, Salonia defeated Hussain Ansari of Gorakhpur 21-18, 21-11 in the boys singles category. In the mixed doubles final, while pairing with Aditya Yadav, Salonia defeated the duo of Divyanshi Gautam and Sunrekh Chaharsiya 11-21, 21-16, 21-17. A trainee of NIS coach Arvind Narain Ojha here, Salonia completed his golden treble when he won the boys doubles title along with the Abhishek Kushwaha of Gorakhpur as the two defeated the pair of Devang Tomar (Moradabad) and Sanrekh Chaharsiya (Jhansi) 21-17, 21-16. In a close contest in the girls' singles final, Taranjeet Kaur of Moradabad defeated Divyanshi Gautam of Agra 17-21, 21-10, 21-12. The girls doubles went to Aditya Yadav (Gorakhpur), and Riddhima Singh (Moradabad), who defeated Kirat Choudhary (Ghaziabad), Rudrakshi Rana (Ghaziabad) 21-9, 21-13. Tectro Club notched up a convincing 5-0 win against Sacred Heart Club in the District Football League-2025, at the Chowk Stadium here on Sunday. Himanshu Thapa, Kamal, Aditya, Divyanshu and Ayan shared five goals between them. In the second match, Ex Student Club defeated Footy Club 1-0. Krishna scored for Ex Student Club in the 50th minute.
