Jhansi's Jia to participate in Asian Youth Games
LUCKNOW, July 7 -- Uttar Pradesh's swimmer Jiya Yadav will represent India at the 3rd Asian Youth Games, scheduled to be held in Bahrain from October 23 to 27.
A self-taught swimmer from Jhansi Jiya, who began her journey in a modest 15-meter school pool without a coach, Yadav mastered her techniques by watching YouTube videos. Her passion led her to participate in the Uttar Pradesh State Sub-Junior Championships, where she showcased consistent improvement and soon began clinching gold medals.
Jiya's breakthrough came when she was selected for the Uttar Pradesh team in the Sub-Junior
National Championship, with her favourite stroke backstroke and earned her top. honours. Her transition to Glenmark Academy of Swimming Federation of India in New Delhi, under national coach Partha Majumdar also helped her improve her game. Coming from humble beginnings as her father a farmer, Jiya's story is a testament to perseverance, grit, and talent. Her selection for Indian squad reflects years of dedication and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Ghaziabad's Sarth Mishra notched up came from behind win against local challenger Divyansh Srivastava to win the men's singles crown of the 2nd UP State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament here on Sunday.
Despite losing the first game at 9-11, Mishra bounced back superbly to win the next three games by 11-7, 11-8, 11-9 and the title too. The women's singles title went to Avani Tripathi also from Ghaziabad after she defeated compatriot Aarti Choudhary 11-8, 11-7, 11-9 in straight games.
Gautam Budh Nagar's Garv Singla defeated Ghaziabad's Arav Rathi 11-6, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9 to win the youth boys title, whereas Avani Tripathi captured her second title of the day, beating citymate Anika Gupta 6-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 11-4 in the youth girls final.
Arnav Panwar of Ghaziabad beat Garv Singla of Gautam Budh Nagar 11-7, 9-11, 10-12, 14-12, 12-10 to win the boys under-17 title, whereas in the girls category final, Samriddhi Sharma of Gautam Budh Nagar defeated local challenger Sakshi Tiwari 11-5, 11-7, 11-9.
In the sub-junior boys final, Keshav Khandelwal of Agra beat Arnav Thapa of Ghaziabad 11-4, 11-6, 11-2. Agra's Pehel Gupta claimed the sub-junior girls title, defeating Lucknow's Swasti Chandra 10-12, 11-8, 11-4, 9-11, 11-7. Lucknow's Shaurya Goel won the cadet boys title, defeating citymate Lakshya Kumar 11-7, 11-13, 11-8, 11-8, but in the girls cadet final Agra's Pehel Gupta beat Ankisha Mishra 9-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8 to win her second title of the tournament.
Ghaziabad's Aryaveer Borah won the Hope boys title, defeating citymate Vedansh Singh 11-3, 10-12. 11-7, 11-8, whereas in the Hope girl final, Anshika Gupta of Prayagraj beat Inaya Fatima of Agra 11-7, 11-7, 11-7....
