Jewellery trader shot, robbed in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 24 -- A jewellery trader was shot and allegedly robbed of silver ornaments and cash worth several lakhs by unidentified criminals in the trans-Yamuna area of Karachhana in Prayagraj on Monday night, police said.
The incident took place near the Ghoredih canal culvert under the Karachhana police station limits. The injured trader has been admitted to the hospital, while police have launched a search for the accused. Deputy commissioner of police (trans-Yamuna) Vivek Chandra Yadav visited the spot after receiving information. He said a case has been registered against unidentified robbers and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the culprits.
The victim was identified as 35-year-old Chandan Soni of Majhua village in Karachhana, who runs a jewellery shop at Bhirpur on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway. He was returning home on his motorcycle after closing his shop when the incident allegedly occurred. He told police that the bag contained about 2 kg of silver ornaments and cash worth several lakhs. Police said the criminals were allegedly waiting near the canal culvert and fired two shots at him, hitting his abdomen and leg. After he fell, the assailants allegedly looted the bag from his motorcycle and fled, while passers-by alerted the police after hearing gunshots....
