Jewellery shop burgled, valuablesworth Rs.25 lakh looted
PRAYAGRAJ, Jan. 30 -- A jewellery shop in Mirganj under Kotwali police station area was targeted by thieves who broke the shutter lock and escaped with valuables worth approximately Rs.25 lakh during the wee hours of Thursday. The entire incident was captured on the shop's CCTV cameras, police said.
Aniket Soni and Sujal Soni, brothers from Shivgarh Bazaar, Soraon, run a store named AS Jewellers in the Mirganj area. On Thursday early morning, a thief entered the market after cutting the main gate shutter with a saw blade and then broke the shop's lock to gain access.
Once inside, the thief collected all the items and left.
According to Sujal Soni, the thieves stole 162 grams of gold along with dies and other items, valued at around Rs.25 lakh. The market where the shop is located has nearly a dozen jewellery stores selling gold and silver ornaments.
CCTV footage shows a man entering the shop at 4.08 am. and leaving at 4.44 am. The methodical way the theft was carried out suggests that an accomplice may have been stationed outside as a lookout. Police believe the thieves had previously conducted reconnaissance of the store. Sujal Soni has filed a formal complaint based on which an FIR has been registered and a probe is now underway to identify and nab the thieves, said station officer Sanjay Kumar Rai....
