Kanpur, Dec. 20 -- A 35-year-old jewellery trader allegedly killed his minor son before taking his own life in the Hashimpur area of Araul on Friday under the Kanpur West police zone. His younger son, who was also attacked, is undergoing treatment and remains in a critical condition. Police recovered a suicide note from the spot in which the trader expressed distress over his inability to support his family and wrote that one should have only as many children as one can adequately raise. The incident came to light after the trader and his two sons, aged 12 and 7, did not open the door of their room for several hours. Family members alerted the police, who forced the door open with their help. The man was found lying on the floor with a torn saree tied around his neck. Both children had suffered severe injuries and were rushed to the community health centre in Bilhaur. Doctors declared the trader and his elder son brought dead, while the younger child was referred to a higher medical facility. In the note addressed to his father, the trader cited financial distress and the burden of responsibility. "I am taking them with me because I cannot leave them behind to suffer without any support," it read. Deputy commissioner of police (West) Dinesh Tripathi said the preliminary investigation points to a murder-suicide triggered by personal and financial crisis. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway....
