LUCKNOW, Dec. 9 -- Cabinet minister of rural development and transport in the Bihar government, Shravan Kumar, on Monday said that Janata Dal (U) leaders and workers were feeling sidelined and neglected in Uttar Pradesh. "JD(U) is an ally of the BJP, yet we do not get the required attention from the state government...while in Bihar, BJP members are treated with equal footing by the JD(U)," he said. Kumar, who is in in charge of JD (U) for UP, was in Lucknow to review the party organisation and membership drive launched by the party in the state. Addressing a press conference, Kumar said: "The JD(U) is working to strengthen the party organization in UP. It will contest the upcoming panchayat polls to strengthen the party organization at the grassroots level. The decision to contest the 2027 assembly election in UP will be taken by the party's central leadership later," he said. The JD(U) has decided to appoint a party leader to coordinate with local leaders in the membership drive and organisation works in UP. The party organisation is abuzz with discussions over Bihar chief minister's son- Nishant Kumar - joining politics. "Nishant will have to join active politics when people's pressure will increase," he said. When asked if former Lok Sabha MP Dhananjay Singh, whose associates' name has surfaced in the Codeine-based cough syrup trafficking case, was the general secretary of JD(U), Kumar replied that he was unaware of Singh's status.
