Jayant urges Yogi to launch 'Ambedkar Pilgrimage Scheme'
Lucknow, Aug. 4 -- To promote the ideals and legacy of Dr BR Ambedkar among the masses, member of parliament Jayant Chaudhary has written to chief minister Yogi Adityanath to urge the launch of the "Ambedkar Pilgrimage Scheme".
Under this proposed initiative, people from economically weaker sections would be provided free travel to five sites, known as the Panchteerth, associated with Dr Ambedkar's life. They are his birthplace Mhow (Madhya Pradesh), the place of his higher education London (UK), the site of his conversion to Buddhism (Deeksha Bhoomi) Nagpur (Maharashtra) and his final resting place Mumbai (Maharashtra) and the place of his Mahaparinirvan (death) Delhi. Jayant emphasised that while these sites have become important centres of inspiration and learning, many underprivileged individuals still cannot afford to visit them due to financial constraints. The proposed scheme aims to address this gap and make these spiritual and educational journeys accessible to all, especially the marginalized communities for whom Dr Ambedkar dedicated his life.
The letter suggests a transparent and inclusive selection process, taking into account factors like age, economic background, and social criteria to ensure fair access. Chaudhary noted that UP, being India's most populous state and a major centre of socio-political consciousness, would set a powerful example for the nation if such a scheme were launched from here....
