Srinagar, Nov. 18 -- A 55-year-old man who set himself ablaze after police detained his son and brother in the ongoing probe into the "white-collar" terror module died of burn injuries at Srinagar's Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital early on Monday, officials said. Bilal Ahmad Wani, a dry-fruit seller from Qazigund in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, reportedly attempted self-immolation on Saturday shortly after Jammu & Kashmir Police picked up his son, Jasir Bilal Wani, alias Danish, and his brother, Naveed Wani, for questioning. The detentions came after the busting of the Faridabad-based terror module linked to the November 10 Red Fort blast that killed 13 people. A family member said Wani had suffered nearly 90% burns. "He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital early Monday," the relative said. The Wani family lives next door to brothers Adil and Muzaffar Rather, both doctors accused of being part of the Jaish-e-Mohammad-linked module. Muzaffar is believed to be in Afghanistan, while Adil was arrested in Saharanpur on November 6 for allegedly pasting Jaish posters in Srinagar's Nowgam area warning of a "spectacular attack". On Saturday, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti urged police to allow Wani to meet his detained relatives. In a post on X, she called him "an anguished father petrified about their safety". "He pleaded with the authorities to just see them but this was denied," she wrote, adding that such actions "only deepen wounds and breed despair"....
