PRAYAGRAJ, May 10 -- An undertrial prisoner, lodged in connection with a murder allegedly committed during a theft incident, sustained serious injuries inside the district jail in Pratapgarh late on Friday night, said police on Saturday. According to jail authorities, the prisoner was injured after a ceiling fan installed in the barrack, along with a wooden support beam, broke loose and fell on him. After primary treatment, he was referred from Raja Pratap Bahadur Hospital to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Prayagraj for further treatment. Officials said the inmate is undergoing treatment and his condition is reported to be stable. The inmate has been identified as 35-year-old Rajendra Prajapati alias Chithru, a resident of a village under Hathigwan police station area.
