Israeli tech boosts horticulture in Prayagraj region
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 13 -- A horticultural transformation is underway in eastern Uttar Pradesh's fruit belt of Prayagraj and Kaushambi, led by hands-on training programmes courtesy of the Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Fruits in Kaushambi, said officials. In a recent initiative, the Horticultural Experiment and Training Centre, Khusrobagh (Prayagraj), conducted a session for guava farmers focusing on modern orchard management. Topics included canopy management, nutrient optimisation and cost-effective irrigation systems like sprinklers.
Farmers were also introduced to Israeli horticultural techniques such as fruit bagging, pheromone traps, and the "skater method" to reduce pest attacks and improve fruit quality. "Our aim is not just to introduce new technology but to transform the way farmers approach horticulture," said VK Singh, chief horticulture expert and training in-charge at Khusrobagh. "Once farmers see the benefits of scientific methods, they are more likely to adopt innovations that increase both yield and income," he said....
