Lucknow, Nov. 3 -- A day after the body of an unidentified woman was recovered from a drain in Gautam Kheda village under Nigohan police limits on Saturday, police said they are examining an electric iron found packed inside the sack with the corpse, calling it a possible key piece of evidence. Officials said the body, stuffed inside a plastic sack and tied with a rope, was spotted by locals on Saturday evening after a foul smell spread in the area. The sack was floating in a large, isolated drain on the outskirts of the village. "When the sack was opened, police found the decomposed body of a woman, aged around 35-40 years, along with an iron press. The body appeared to be 6-7 days old," said an official press note. ACP (Mohanlalganj) Vikas Kumar Pandey and station house officer Anuj Kumar Tiwari visited the spot. Police suspect the woman was killed elsewhere and later dumped in the drain to destroy evidence and hinder identification. According to the ACP, the iron could have been used either to weigh down the sack in the drain or may belong to the victim or the accused, making it a possible lead in identifying those involved. "Forensic examination will be conducted to check fingerprints or traces that can help identify the person who used or placed it," said the SHO Nigohan. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is under way.
