Interstate gang involved in high-tension wire theft busted; 10 held
MEERUT, May 5 -- Babri police in Shamli district recently busted an interstate gang involved in stealing high-tension electric wires and arrested its 10 members, police said. Around 25 quintals of stolen wire packed in 23 bundles, three pickup vehicles, one car and a wire-cutting equipment allegedly used in the crime were also recovered from them, they added.
NP Singh, superintendent of police, Shamli, said the arrests were made late on Saturday night during a routine checking drive. Those arrested have been identified as New Delhi residents Deepak Gupta alias Golu and his brother Nitish, Farman, Afsar, Musheed, Neeraj and Jaganu. Other arrested accused include Akash Kumar and Indrajeet of Bulandshahr besides Devendra Gupta of Firozabad.
Police officials said the gang actively operated not only in districts of the Delhi-NCR region but also across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Over the past month, the gang executed at least four major thefts in Shamli district alone.
Besides, the gang has also been linked to similar theft cases in Khurja Dehat police station area of Bulandshahr district. Police teams are continuing efforts to track down the absconding gang members....
