Bareilly, Sept. 30 -- After last Friday's violent clashes, the state government extended the suspension of internet services here until Tuesday midnight, district magistrate Avinash Singh said on Monday, citing a government order aimed at maintaining law and order in the region. The violence erupted in the heart of Bareilly when police and locals clashed over the denial of permission for a demonstration. In response, authorities took swift action, filing 10 cases against 180 named individuals and approximately 2,500 unidentified persons. To curb the spread of inflammatory content and prevent further escalation, the state home department issued an order on Saturday suspending SMS, mobile internet, and broadband services across all providers for 48 hours in Bareilly. The notification emphasised that the suspension was necessary "to prevent the possible misuse of the above-mentioned media and internet to disturb the peace and tranquillity of the entire district and create further law and order situation."...
