Inter-varsity cricket tourney begins at AMU
Agra, Nov. 24 -- : The North Zone Inter-University Cricket Tournament began at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with an inaugural ceremony on Saturday.
The event was formally inaugurated by AMU vice chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon, in the presence of pro vice chancellor Prof. Mohammad Mohsin Khan and others
Welcoming the participating teams, the Vice Chancellor underscored the enduring values embodied in sports. She emphasised that the true essence of sportsmanship should be visible in the conduct and character of every player. Expressing confidence in the athletes, she hoped the championship would promote excellence, harmony, and camaraderie among the competing universities.
On this occasion, an official sports souvenir, edited by Prof. F. S. Sherani, along with the tournament badge, was also released.
The tournament was in the news after Faridabad's Al-Falah University, under scanner for alleged terror links following the Red Fort blast in Delhi, was excluded from participation in the tournament a week ago.
The exclusion followed the suspension of the university's membership by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)....
