Inter-state narcotics racket busted; four held
LUCKNOW, Feb. 15 -- The UP Special Task Force (STF) has arrested four alleged members of an inter-state narcotics syndicate and seized 3.70 quintals of ganja with an estimated international market value of Rs.92.5 lakh, officials said on Saturday.
The arrests were made on Friday at around 8.32 pm under the Gomtinagar Extension police station limits in Lucknow. Along with the contraband, the STF recovered a truck, five mobile phones, a dongle, a black SUV without number plates and Rs.9,300 in cash.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mayank Jaiswal alias Suraj of Barabanki, Jeetu Srivastava alias Dadda of Lucknow, Paritosh Tripathi of Indiranagar, Lucknow, and truck driver Kuldeep Yadav of Nalanda district in Bihar.
According to the STF, it had received intelligence inputs about an active gang smuggling large quantities of cannabis from Odisha to UP. STF teams began surveillance and intelligence gathering. Officials learned that a truck carrying a major consignment of ganja from Odisha's Malkangiri region was expected to reach Lucknow via Chhattisgarh and Sultanpur. The truck was reportedly being escorted by a black Scorpio SUV that moved ahead of it, alerting the driver about police checking points to avoid interception....
