LUCKNOW, May 2 -- Stressing the significance of constitutional institutions, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday said executive, judiciary and legislature have their roles and that mutual respect among them can only be ensured when each remains within its jurisdiction. "I have the highest respect for judiciary. I am a foot soldier of judiciary. I spent four decade as lawyer. It was only in 2019 that I ceased to be a lawyer upon being appointed the governor of West Bengal. I know judiciary has bright people and holds significance," he said at the launch of a book "Chunautiyan Mujhe Pasand Hain" ( I like challenges) chronicling the journey of Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel in Lucknow. "How strong is our democracy is defined by the state of judiciary. Our judges are among the best. But then I appeal we should show collaboration, coordination and cooperative stance," Dhankhar added. "We have to respect the Constitution in letter and in spirit. In our Constitution, two positions are supreme. One is of the President of India and the other of governor. And it is supreme because oath of the President and governor is different from others, including CMs, MLAs, ministers and judges. The oath for them is 'I will abide by the Constitution,'" said the VP. "For the President and the governor, it is different. Their oath is 'I will preserve, protest and defend the Constitution' and the second is 'I will serve the people'. For the governor, it refers to the people of state and for the President people of India," he added. "Commenting upon such positions needs to be thought about I believe. I have expressed concern about it. All institutions have their roles and one should not play the role of other," the VP said....
