Inspector in Deoband sent to lines over terrorism remark video
MEERUT, Nov. 14 -- An inspector of Saharanpur district's Deoband police station was removed from duty and attached to police lines after a video clip went viral in which he was purportedly seen saying that 'terrorists had been caught even from within the Army' and stressing that 'terrorism has no religion'.
Confirming it, Saharanpur SSP Ashish Tiwari said an inquiry into the matter had also been ordered. The remarks were made during a peace and security committee meeting at Deoband police station on Tuesday. In the 20-second viral clip, inspector Narendra Kumar Sharma claimed: "Armymen acting as terrorists have been caught from Punjab."
A longer video from the same meeting later emerged, showing Sharma clarifying: "Bad people can be found in every religion. Terrorism has no religion. I have never taken action based on religion or caste in my entire service. Naxals are mostly Hindus."
