LUCKNOW, Nov. 7 -- Jailer, deputy jailer and warder of Lalitpur jail were placed under suspension for their alleged laxity in performing their duties and allowing a prisoner to possess a mobile phone inside the prison, confirmed senior police officials of Uttar Pradesh Prison Administration and Reforms on Thursday. In a press release shared with media, the jail administration officials said the incident came to light on Thursday when a mobile phone was recovered from the possession of an undertrial Gyanendra Dhaka during a routine search. They said the prisoner had concealed the phone in his clothing. Following the incident, a preliminary investigation was conducted by the deputy inspector general of prisons, Kanpur region, they added. "As per the investigation findings, jailer Jeevan Singh, deputy jailer Prince Babu and jail warder Akash Kushwaha had been negligent in their duties, allowing the prisoner to possess the mobile phone. The trio has been suspended with immediate effect and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against them," said the jail administration spokesperson.
