Rudrapur, May 5 -- The forest department has deployed two dedicated teams to monitor and protect the cubs of an injured tigress that was rescued on Saturday from the Fato zone under the Terai West forest division in Kumaon. The tigress has been shifted to the Dhela Rescue Centre inside Corbett Tiger Reserve for treatment, officials aware of the matter said on Sunday. Sandeep Giri, sub-divisional officer of the Terai West division, said, "We have deployed two teams to ensure round-the-clock surveillance and protection of the cubs from any potential threat posed by other wild animals. Our top priority is to keep them safe in their natural habitat." According to forest officials, the five-year-old tigress had been frequently spotted by both staff and tourists in the Fato range, accompanied by her two cubs. In recent days, she was observed limping due to injuries believed to have been sustained during a territorial fight with a male tiger, they added. Following necessary approvals, forest veterinarians tranquilised the tigress and transported her to the rescue centre for medical care, leaving the cubs behind in the wild. "Though the cubs are nearly grown and capable of fending for themselves, we are taking extra precautions to ensure their safety. The goal is to reunite the tigress with her cubs once she recovers," said Giri....
