Lucknow, March 11 -- A 50-year-old man was arrested for axeing his wife in the Shekhan Kheda village of Lucknow's Nigohan area. The arrest was made on Tuesday, within 48 hours of the incident. The accused allegedly attacked his 45-year-old wife at their home on March 8 following an argument. The victim sustained multiple head injuries and died on the spot. The man then fled the scene. The case was registered at Nigohan police station based on a complaint filed by the couple's son. The man, who had sold portions of land to fund his addiction, frequently argued with his wife, who opposed the sales," read a Lucknow police press note. "On the day of the murder, the accused returned home intoxicated and, during an argument with his wife, attacked her with the axe in a fit of rage," the press note read.
