IndiGo flight disruptions: Chaos at Gkp airport continues
GORAKHPUR, Dec. 7 -- Chaos continued at the Gorakhpur airport for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday following cancellation of multiple IndiGo flights, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded. Many struggled to get their baggage and seek refunds, while long queues formed at airline counters as passengers waited for updates.
The ongoing disruptions have caused significant financial losses to the business community. Several travellers, who were scheduled to attend important family and professional events, expressed deep dissatisfaction over the repeated inconvenience, especially for those flying to and from major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
Gorakhpur airport director Sanjay Kumar said only one scheduled IndiGo flight was cancelled on Saturday, resulting in relatively lower passenger pressure compared to Friday, when nearly half a dozen flights were abruptly cancelled, trapping hundreds of passengers at the terminal.
On Saturday, angry flyers accused the airline of poor communication and lack of alternative arrangements, which led to heated arguments and slogan-shouting on the airport premises.
Vijay Kaushal, operations manager, Gorakhpur airport, said, "IndiGo flight operations were affected due to operational reasons. Passengers were informed and arrangements such as refunds and rescheduling are being provided as per airline policy."
However, many passengers alleged that they received the information only after arriving at the airport.
Meanwhile, airport authorities expressed hope that the situation would normalise soon....
