Indian women's rowing camp at Gorakhpur
LUCKNOW, March 27 -- A historic milestone is about to be added to the sporting landscape of Uttar Pradesh as for the first time in the history of Indian rowing, Uttar Pradesh has been granted the opportunity to host a national training camp. The national camp for the Indian women's rowing team is set to commence from Friday, at the Water Sports Complex at Ramgarhtal in Gorakhpur.
Selected female rowers from across the country are participating in this camp. These include athletes who have brought glory to the nation at both national and international levels. They are: Kiran (Haryana), Mrinmayee Salgaonkar (Maharashtra), Rukmani, Vindhya Shankar (Madhya Pradesh), B Anandi, Kiran Devi (All India Police Control Board/Meghalaya), Ashwani Kumaran, Sania Krishnan, Anna Helen, Hima T, Angel Mary (Kerala) and Monica Badoria, Anshika Bharti (Odisha). Services Sports Control Board's Rajesh Kumar and Mamta Jena of All India Police Control Board have been named coaches at the camp. This training camp is being organized specifically by the Sports Authority of India at a request of the Rowing Federation of India, as part of preparations for the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026) to be held in Japan.
Sudhir Sharma, vice-president of the Rowing Federation of India and secretary of the UP Rowing Association, stated that the selected athletes and coaches for the camp have already arrived in Gorakhpur. The camp will be formally inaugurated on Friday at 3:00 PM.
He further states that this marks the first instance where the Rowing Federation of India (RFI) has chosen Uttar Pradesh to host a national team training camp. The Ramgarhtal venue has been developed to meet international standards and features calm waters, which will prove instrumental in helping the athletes refine their technique. Through this camp, Uttar Pradesh is poised to emerge as a prominent hub for water sports.
The 20th Asian Games (Nagoya 2026) in Japan are scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4. Under this program, rowing competitions will be held at the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course in Sumiyama, Fukuye, Kaizu City, Gifu Prefecture from September 20 to 25.
KCA Kanpur and Saharanpur stormed into the final of the 1st Radhika Singh Memorial State-Level Women's Cricket Tournament, notching up contrasting wins, at the Sage Cricket Ground here on Thursday. KCA Kanpur defeated Allahabad by four wickets, whereas Saharanpur beat CAL Blue by 14 runs in two semi-finals.
In the first semi-final, batting first, Allahabad posted 138/8 in 25 overs. They lost three quick wickets for 34 runs. Katyayani Pathak top-scored with 33 runs, while Astha Mishra contributed 27. Meenakshi Yadav added 17 runs, Kajal Chaurasia 14, and Shivani Maurya an unbeaten 13 runs. For KCA Kanpur, Siddhi Singh claimed three wickets, while Garima Yadav took two.
In reply, KCA Kanpur successfully chased down the target, scoring 139/6 in 23.3 overs. Opener Babita Yadav was dismissed for just four runs. But fellow opener Anjali held her ground at the crease to play a superb innings of 65 runs off 69 balls, featuring eight boundaries. Providing her with support, Tripti Singh contributed 18 runs and Neha Verma added 14 runs, playing a pivotal role in the victory....
