New Delhi, Jan. 7 -- Indian languages have endured centuries of historical disruptions while continuing to shape the country's civilisation, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Tuesday and asserted that promotion of Indian and classical languages is a priority of the government. Pradhan was addressing an event in the national capital where he released 41 literary works developed by the Centres of Excellence for Classical Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Odia. He also released 13 books along with a 45-episode Sign Language interpretation series of the Tirukkural by the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT). While colonial policies attempted to use language as a barrier, Indian civilisation has consistently treated language as a connector across regions and communities, he added. "We are working towards popularising and preserving India's literary heritage. Indian languages are medium of expression and the government is committed towards these languages," the Union minister said....
