PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 21 -- The Red Eagle Division (Strike One) of the Indian Army has started a special cycling expedition to mark 60 years since the 1965 India-Pakistan War and the formation of Strike One. The event is being held in honour of Company Quartermaster Havildar (CQMH) Abdul Hamid, who was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously for his bravery during the war. It also pays tribute to all the soldiers who served in the conflict. The expedition began on Friday from Veer Abdul Hamid Dwar in Old Cantonment, Prayagraj. It will end at Vir Abdul Hamid Park in Dhamupur, Ghazipur - the birthplace of the war hero. Speaking on the occasion, Wing Commander Debartho Dhar, Defence PRO for the Prayagraj region, said the journey is a symbol of the Indian Army's courage and strong spirit. Army personnel will cover a distance of 231 kilometres on bicycles. Along the way, they will pass through important towns and villages, meeting local people and encouraging young citizens to join the Indian Army. The journey will end with a special ceremony in Dhamupur on September 22. The event will include serving soldiers, war veterans, government officials, and local residents. Activities such as meeting with veterans, talks with civilians, and programmes under the "Join Indian Army" campaign will also be held. CQMH Abdul Hamid showed great bravery in the 1965 Battle of Asal Uttar. He destroyed three Pakistani tanks and was killed while attacking a fourth.
