India's first 'door-to-door logistics service' launched in lko
LUCKOW, Oct. 15 -- In a significant move to modernise logistics and improve customer convenience, union minister for railways, information and broadcasting, and electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Tuesday launched the country's first 'door-to-door logistics service' through video conferencing at Sonik Goods Shed, under the Lucknow Division of Northern Railway (NR), said Kuldeep Tiwari, senior divisional commercial manager, NR, Lucknow in a press note on Tuesday.
"The service will be managed by Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR), representing a significant milestone in integrated freight and logistics management on Indian Railways. The project has been approved for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of a two-year extension based on demand," he stated.
Sonik Goods Shed, classified as a Category-1 goods shed, currently manages around 13 inward rakes per month carrying commodities such as food grains, fertilisers, cement and NMG (new modified goods) rakes, in addition to around 80 wagon-loads of piecemeal consignments each month.
Under the project, CONCOR will oversee all operations of the goods shed, including maintenance, sanitation, and adherence to statutory and environmental regulations....
