India Post now halts all mail services to US
New Delhi, Aug. 31 -- Days after it announced that it was only temporarily suspending parcel services to the US over confusion caused by new import duty rules, the Department of Posts (DoP) has now suspended all categories of mail, even letters, documents, and gift items worth up to $100 (Rs.8,814).
Citing carriers' inability to transport US-bound mail and the absence of clear regulatory mechanisms, the DoP has ordered a complete suspension of all mail categories to the US.
A public notice dated August 29, 2025 said the DoP has reviewed the earlier temporary suspension and that "In view of the inability of carriers to transport U.S.-bound mail, and undefined regulatory mechanisms, it has now been decided to completely suspend booking of all categories of mail, including letters/documents and gifts value up to $100, destined to the USA."
"The Department is closely monitoring the situation and is making every effort to restore services at the earliest. In case any item that has already been booked and could not be dispatched, postage refund can be claimed. Inconvenience caused to our esteemed customers is deeply regretted," it further read....
