Include one crore women inLakhpati Mahila Club: Maurya
VARANASI, March 3 -- Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday called for the inclusion of 10 million (one crore) women in the Lakhpati Mahila Club in Uttar Pradesh. Addressing a gathering of women at the concluding ceremony of 11-day regional (national level) Saras Mela at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University (SSU) here, he urged for more women to join the group.
Maurya announced the organisation of Saras Melas in the coming days so that other women, inspired by the women coming from other states and districts, also come forward and work. He also praised the work of the women and their products.
The deputy CM inspected the stalls, inquired about the products and praised the food court set up by the Livelihood Mission. Maurya honoured two insurance friends from Varanasi, Meena Devi and Pratibha Devi, and two lakhapati women, Sharmila Devi and Lakshmi Verma, with certificates.
He also distributed symbolic checks worth Rs.10.65 crore to 703 groups in the district under the Community Investment Fund and 20 groups under the Revolving Fund. E-rickshaws were also provided to women from two groups.
The Lakhimpur Kheri group was awarded the first prize, while the Mirzapur district received the second prize for the highest sales at the fair. These two stalls sold and exhibited leather and bamboo products.
