In Agra, day begins early as yoga enthusiasts throng venues
Agra, June 22 -- The 11th International Yoga Day gave an early start to cities and people were up and at Yoga since the break of dawn. To mark the special occasion, monuments protected by the Archaeological Survey of India remained free for entry.
Entry was also free at Taj Mahal but those opting to go to the main mausoleum had to pay Rs 200 as special ticket.
UP minister Chaudhary Laxmi Narain was in Aligarh for the occasion and highlighted the roots of Yoga in Indian heritage.
In Aligarh, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised events at 25 venues across the main campus in Aligarh and its centres in Kishanganj (Bihar), Malappuram (Kerala), and Murshidabad (West Bengal).
The central celebration, held on the lawns of the department of physical education, was led by the vice-chancellor, professor Naima Khatoon, who participated alongside students, faculty members, staff, and yoga enthusiasts in a 45-minute yoga session guided by expert instructors.In Agra, minister for tourism and culture in state cabinet, Jaiveer Singh, led the yoga sessions organised at Eklavya Sports Stadium, while Union minister of state and MP from Agra SP Singh Baghel led the event at Agra Fort. They highlighted the role of prime minister Narendra Modi in providing international identity, acceptance and recognition for Yoga from India.
The NSS cell for Dayalbagh Educational Institute (DEI) also organised a yoga session.
In Agra, yoga sessions were held at Agra Metro Depot and Taj Mahal Metro Station.
On this occasion, chairman of Footwear and Leather Business Development Council, Puran Dawar, director of Prelude Public School, Sushil Gupta, and other officials of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation performed yoga at Taj Mahal Metro Station....
