LUCKNOW, May 4 -- In a setback for the Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, party state president Premchand Kashyap resigned on Sunday and joined the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP). He alleged neglect of backward riverine communities and promotion of family members within the organisation by SBSP chief and Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Rajbhar. Kashyap's resignation is seen as a blow to the SBSP, which has influence among the Rajbhar community in eastern UP and has been attempting to expand its base among Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Dalit communities in central and western regions of the state. Soon after quitting the party, Kashyap joined the VIP led by former Bihar minister Mukesh Sahani. The party has a support base among riverine communities in Bihar and is now seeking to strengthen its presence in UP. Kashyap alleged that instead of working for the social justice and rights of riverine communities, Rajbhar was promoting his family members in both the party and politics. He claimed that despite being a minister in the UP government, Rajbhar had failed to secure reservation in government jobs for Nishads and 21 other sub-castes linked to riverine communities. A resident of Mainpuri district, Kashyap was appointed SBSP state president in April 2022 and was given the responsibility of strengthening the party in central and western UP. Claiming that he had received threats from opposition workers, Kashyap said he had repeatedly sought security cover from both the party leadership and the state government but was not provided a gunner. He alleged this reflected the neglect of alliance leaders within the NDA. He also said the VIP would target the Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal (NISHAD) led by fisheries minister Sanjay Nishad, alleging that both the SBSP and NISHAD Party were promoting dynasty politics while ordinary workers were being ignored....
