In a first, green vine snake seen in corbett
Haldwani, May 22 -- A green vine snake (Ahaetulla nasuta) was recently spotted in the Aam Pokhra range under the Tarai West Forest division in the Corbett landscape, marking the first such sighting of the species in the Terai region, said officials .
The Uttarakhand forest department has taken note of the development and is now planning a conservation project to protect the species in the region.
"Our Quick Response Team (QRT) members Bhawani Dutt Sati and Neeraj spotted the green vine snake in the Aam Pokhra jungle," said Manish Joshi, sub-divisional forest officer, Tarai West.
"This is the first time the species has been seen in the Tarai landscape. Green vine snakes are typically found in the moist forests of southern India. Its presence here indicates healthy biodiversity in the region's forests," Joshi added.
He confirmed that the department is planning a detailed study and conservation project focused on the species.
