Lucknow, May 28 -- The department of emergency medicine at the King George's Medical University (KGMU) organised a continuing medical education (CME) and workshop, on Tuesday, to commemorate International Emergency Medicine Day. The theme of the event was "Proud to Provide Emergency Care to You." Talking about the importance of emergency medicine, Prof Haider Abbas, head of the department, emphasised that emergency medicine is the backbone of the healthcare system and plays a critical role in saving lives. He stressed the importance of timely intervention in emergency situations, such as snakebites, stroke, heart attack, and poisoning, to reduce mortality and prevent disabilities. The event included workshops on snake bite life support (SBLS) and basic life support (BLS), as well as lectures on toxicology and snakebite management.
