Mussoorie, Oct. 2 -- Several parts of Uttarakhand witnessed light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in the past 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday. The state recorded 2.4 mm of rainfall against a normal of 2.1 mm, registering an overall excess of 13% in 24 hours till 8.30 am. Rudraprayag reported the highest rainfall at 10.5 mm against a normal of 0.6 mm, an excess of 1,650% above normal. It was followed by Udham Singh Nagar with 7.4 mm (1,133% above normal) and Chamoli with 4.2 mm (430% above normal). Almora recorded 2.3 mm, 78% above its normal. By contrast, Tehri Garhwal received just 0.9 mm (50% shortfall), while Haridwar and Pauri Garhwal reported no rain. Thunderstorms were reported in Pantnagar, Mukteshwar, Mussoorie and Dehradun, with Chamoli witnessing the highest surface wind speed of 35 km per hour. The IMD centre issued a yellow alert for Thursday, warning of intense spells of rain in Dehradun, Bageshwar, Nainital and Pithoragarh, with thunderstorms likely in Tehri, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Almora, Champawat and US Nagar....
