Mussoorie, March 26 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Dehradun centre has issued a yellow alert for March 27 and March 29, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated places in five hilly districts of Uttarakhand. According to officials, the alert covers Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts. A duty officer at the IMD Dehradun centre said that a western disturbance is developing over the region and is expected to become active by the night of March 28. This system is likely to bring light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and snowfall at higher altitudes (above 3,300 metres) in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh on March 26 and 27, said IMD officials. Very light rainfall along with thunderstorms or snowfall at elevations above 3,300 metres is also likely at isolated places in the remaining districts of the state. The IMD further stated that light to moderate rain and snowfall in higher reaches is expected to continue at a few places in these districts between March 28 and March 30.
