PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 13 -- In a major crackdown on illegally manufactured and stored firecrackers ahead of Diwali, police from three police stations seized large quantities of firecrackers during raids conducted on Saturday night across different parts of the city. As per reports, police from Jhunsi police station raided the house of Rajesh Kesarwani, a resident of Chak Hariharvan on Lilapur Road, and seized a total of 329 kg of illegal firecrackers and fireworks packed in 17 sacks and three cartons. The estimated value of the seized firecrackers is over Rs.1.5 lakh. According to SHO Jhunsi, Mahesh Mishra, the accused Rajesh Kesarwani has been arrested on charges of illegal firecracker storage. Similarly, Handia police seized 977 kg of illegal firecrackers and arrested three suspects. Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house on Dhobha Road in Baraut town, where the firecrackers were illegally stored. During the raid, three individuals were arrested: Radheshyam Maurya alias Mangal and Ghanshyam Maurya, both residents of Baraut village, Dhobha Road; and Ravishankar Harijan, a resident of Sadrepur village under the Handia police station area. Police recovered 45 sacks and cartons of illegal firecrackers, weighing a total of 977.360 kilograms, from the accused.
