LUCKNOW, Sept. 5 -- The death toll from the explosions at an illegal firecracker unit in Behta village under Gudamba police station rose to three after a 20-year-old youth succumbed during treatment at King George's Medical University (KGMU) on Thursday. His parents had died on the spot in the initial blast on August 28. Police said the family had been illegally manufacturing firecrackers inside their home. Sparks during 'testing' triggered a massive explosion that razed the house, flattened the adjoining building and damaged four other nearby homes. The impact was heard over two kilometres away. Alam and his wife Munni died instantly, while their son Irshad was rescued alive but critically injured. He died after battling for days at King George's Medical University. Another relative, Nadeem, remains in critical condition, while others injured have been discharged from private hospitals.
