LUCKNOW, July 20 -- The city is seeing a rising trend of private residential plots turning into commercial cricket turfs. In one such case, Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) officials demolished an illegal turf set up on a government property. During a surprise inspection near the high-profile G20 Road in Gomti Nagar, LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar found out that an individual had fenced off the LDA-owned land and turned it into a makeshift cricket ground. An LDA official said that the person had been renting the space to players without any permission or lease. The site, located on a route frequently used by top officials, had remained under the radar of the LDA's engineering and land-monitoring staff. Acting on the VC's instructions, the LDA team demolished the turf within hours. Confirming the encroachment, Kumar said, "An illegal cricket academy was operating on LDA land.
