LUCKNOW, March 13 -- - IIT Kanpur has handed over the Substation Inspection Robot (SIR) to Powergrid at GRIDCON 2025 in New Delhi. Developed with Powergrid, SIR uses AI, LiDAR, and sensors for autonomous substation monitoring, inspect critical components, and detect potential faults that could impact power transmission reliability. Prof Bishakh Bhattacharya, from the department of mechanical engineering at IIT Kanpur, said, "This robot detects overheating, leaks and structural damage, sending real-time data for quick decisions." tested in 2024, it improves safety and efficiency.
