VARANASI, June 20 -- The Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), IIT(BHU), Varanasi, has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 566th position in the prestigious QS World University Rankings (WUR) 2026. Among the 54 Indian institutes featured in the global rankings, IIT (BHU) stands at 14th position nationally, the institute said in a press statement. One of the most remarkable accomplishments is the institute's performance in the 'Citations per Faculty (CPF)' indicator, where it has secured the 47th rank globally, improving from 48th in the previous year. Within India, IIT (BHU) ranks 3rd in the CPF metric, reflecting the global impact and quality of research produced by its faculty. Between 2019 and 2023, IIT (BHU) published 12,259 Scopus-indexed research papers across a broad range of disciplines including Engineering & Technology, Natural Sciences, Life Sciences & Health and Arts & Humanities. These publications have collectively received 1,41,332 citations by 2024-an exceptional testament to the scholarly influence of the Institute's research community. The QS WUR 2026 evaluated institutions based on nine core indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, international faculty and students, international research network, citations per faculty, sustainability, and employment outcomes.
