PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 28 -- The Annual Global Alumni Meet-2025 of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A), was formally inaugurated on Saturday on its Jhalwa campus. The inaugural address was delivered by prof Mukul Sharad Sutaone, director of IIIT-A.
Earlier on Friday evening, prof Sutanone hosted a dinner for the alumni, where he interacted with them and their families.
Welcoming the alumni and their families at the inauguration proper, prof Sutaone emphasised the lifelong bond between alumni and their alma mater.
"Just as one can never fully repay a mother's debt, the debt to one's alma mater also lasts a lifetime," he remarked. He described the meet as a Diwali-like celebration-an emotional homecoming that rekindles the cherished memories of student life.
Commemorating IIIT-A's 26th year, prof. Sutaone spoke about the institute's continued pursuit of excellence, notable placement records through the '4-Year Transform' initiative, and its focus on innovation via the New Gen IEDC (Entrepreneurship Cell). He also discussed ongoing developments in the undergraduate and MBA programmes, along with plans for new infrastructure.
Alumni were hailed as brand ambassadors, key stakeholders, and emotional equity holders in the institute's journey. The event, he noted, is not just a gathering, but an investment in relationships that strengthens the enduring bond between alumni and the institution.
Prof Anupam Agarwal, dean of alumni affairs, introduced the guests and alumni while reflecting on the institute's evolution and its adherence to international standards despite early challenges. He recalled how the alumni meet, which started as a physical gathering, successfully adapted to a virtual format during the Covid-19 pandemic, expanding its global reach without interruption.
Prof Bhim Singh, chairman of the Board of Governors, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the returning alumni for reconnecting with their mentors and witnessing the institute's progress firsthand. He credited the alumni for contributing to the institute's legacy, noting how their accomplishments continue to strengthen the IIIT-A brand.
Prof Ram Kumar from IIT-Kanpur shared reflections from his student days, underscoring the lasting value of teamwork, acceptance, and strong interpersonal bonds-skills that have served him globally.
