PRAYAGRAJ, April 28 -- Kaushambi police on Monday arrested the husband and his accomplice of an unidentified woman whose body was found stuffed inside a box along the highway in under the Kokhraj police station limits earlier this month. The case dates back to April 15, when police received information about a suspicious box lying along the highway. Upon reaching the spot and opening it, they found the body of a woman, believed to be around 30 years old. A post-mortem examination later confirmed that she had been strangled to death, sparking widespread outrage and fear across the district. Terming the case a blind murder, superintendent of police Satya Narayan constituted multiple investigation teams and scanned CCTV footage from both sides of the highway to trace clues in the case. The breakthrough came on April 27 during a routine vehicle checking drive, when police intercepted a suspicious car and detained two men travelling in it. During interrogation, the prime accused, identified as Harsh Khiyani, confessed to the crime, revealing that the deceased was his second wife, Moni Verma, a resident of Amethi district. According to police, Moni had been pressuring Harsh to take her to his family home, which allegedly led to tension between them. Under pressure and fearing exposure, Harsh allegedly conspired to kill her. He is said to have strangled Moni, placed her body inside a box, and dumped it along the highway to destroy evidence. In an attempt to conceal her identity, her bag and documents were discarded at a different location. Based on the accused's confession, police recovered the victim's belongings, identification documents, and the car used to dispose of the body. Both accused have been formally arrested and will be produced before a court.
