Meerut, Nov. 6 -- Police have arrested a man for allegedly strangling his 28-year-old wife to death in Saket Colony, Bijnor, late on Monday night. The victim's in-laws have also been booked for dowry harassment and murder. According to police, the accused, Ankit, a native of Khari village under Haldaur police station, had been living on rent in Saket Colony for the past 15 years. Four years ago, he married Ritu, the daughter of Tejpal from Rahmapur village in the Badhapur area. Ritu's father told police that his daughter had been unwell and had gone to her parental home four days ago. On Monday evening, Ankit brought her back, but soon after, the couple began arguing. It is alleged that sometime during the night, Ankit strangled her with a dupatta (scarf). The next morning, Ritu's body was found lying on the bed. Her family rushed to the spot and informed police. In their complaint, they accused Ritu's husband and his family members of killing her for dowry. Circle Officer (City) Gautam Rai confirmed Ankit's arrest, saying, "The accused husband has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. The dupatta used in the murder has been recovered. The role of the other accused is under investigation." Police have registered a case against Ankit, his sisters Vandana, Saloni, and Asha, and his brother-in-law Sachin under relevant sections related to dowry death and murder....
