Humiliated over unpaid fees, pharmacy student dies by suicide
LUCKNOW, June 9 -- A final-year pharmacy student allegedly died by suicide after being confronted by college staff over unpaid fees in Chinhat area of the city on June 5, police said. The 22-year-old student from Rae Bareli was found hanging in his hostel room, they added.
According to an official police statement, the student was allegedly humiliated by the college's accountant over pending fees during a farewell event on campus. He was allegedly barred from participating in the celebration. Distressed by public humiliation, he allegedly hanged himself. Based on a complaint filed by the deceased's elder brother, an FIR was registered at Chinhat police station on June 6 under sections 108 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST Act, police said.
Five college staff members, including the principal, dean, a faculty member, the accountant, and another employee, have been named in the FIR.
"A senior accountant, originally from Gonda and currently residing in Chinhat, was arrested on June 7, while the roles of the remaining accused are under investigation," the police statement said.
The complainant also alleged that the student had previously been barred from appearing for practical exams, the statement added....
