LUCKNOW, April 29 -- Highlighting the need for conservation efforts and more environmental awareness, Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh said over 60% of wildlife population had disappeared since 1970. "About 99% of endangered species are under threat due to human activities such as deforestation, climate change, and illegal trade," the BJP MLA noted. "According to the UN, over 1 million species are at risk of extinction in the near future. The IUCN Red List currently classifies over 42,100 species as endangered," Singh said at an event organised to mark the fourth phase of an environmental awareness program at the ranger's office premises in Kattaiya Kishanpur on Monday in Kheri. "It is estimated that by 2050, there will be more plastic waste than fish in the oceans. Air pollution causes around 7 million deaths annually worldwide, with 2.5 million deaths in India alone," he added. htc...
